Lhasa Apso - Major doggie problem. Please help my pet!?
I have a sick little Lhasa Apso named George, and the vets' answer to everything here is to give him more and more medicine. He's always been healthy, vibrant and loaded with energy. Last week, I took him to a vet, just for an annual check-up, and the vet gave him a shot to fight tapeworms. She also drew some blood to run some standard tests.
The vet called me the following afternoon, saying George is suffering from kidney failure. Since he was still his normal, happy self, I decided to get a second opinion. The next doc barely did anything (other than more shots & an overnight IV). He's been in agony, practically ever since! He was the happiest doggie in the world & now I worry if he's going to make it through.
Has ANYONE experienced anything like this? I know kidney problems run in his breed, but George never ever had a problem until the vets started pocking at him!

Please find a reputable homeopathic vet. Not all dogs respond to traditional medicine. Homeopathic medicine can help these dogs. If you have any questions about this type of animal care, there is a book out by Dr. Pitcairn that is highly regarded by the animal community involved in homeopathy. For more information go to the website I listed below. Most people who are patient, it is a slower type of healing in most cases, swear by it, because it does not just treat the symptoms, but assists the body in healing.
Best of wishes to you and your little George.
I just had a similar experience with my Lhasa Apso! My boyfriend came home from work and noticed that his dog seemed under the weather. Normally the dog is really happy to see him but that day he barely wanted to move. He ate and drank a little but didn't go to the bathroom. Still, the dog seemed almost ok. So my boyfriend took him to the emergency vet that evening and they poked and prodded him and finally concluded that there was something wrong with one of the vertebraes in his back. They gave him morphine for the pain they caused him and pain pills to take for the next few days. Ok - here's the kicker - when my boyfriend brought the dog home from the vet he looked absolutely terrible! He wouldn't move at all and was whining in pain. I was amazed that he looked worse than before! I kept thinking "What did they do to him???" Well, luckily this story has a happy ending. The dog didn't move for the rest of the night and most of the next day. But suddenly he must have felt better because he came running up 2 flights of stairs to see me. I guess he didn't hear the vet tell him not to do stairs! My borfriend took him to his regular vet tonight and they think the dog is fine. They didn't poke him or prod him like the emergency vet did.
If I were you I would try to find a vet with experience in Lhasa Apsos and their health problems. Try contacting a breeder to get recomendations. Or at least try another vet. Good luck and I hope it's nothing serious.
Oh does this sound familiar. 2 years ago I took my happy playful 8 year old Lhasa to the vet for her annual checkup and within a month she was gone - Her heart was enlarged, liver enlarged and kidneys failed. It happened sooo fast! Shadoe showed no signs of being sick before I took her to the vet. He told me I could try radicial treatments that would cost thousands and there was no guarantee. I ended up getting a brother & sister Shih Tzus to feel the void from Shadoe. The shih tzus are more lovable than either of my Lhasa's that I had. Good Luck with George.
I feel so sorry for George and you. Did the vet tested him first for parasites ? You have to know that parasites medicines are usual some kind of poison so it's got to be used veryyyyy careful. Maybe what happened was that the medicine was not good for George, maybe it was not appropiated for small dogs, maybe the vet gave him too much medicine for his size and that could be the reason for kidney failure because you know; kidney is the one has to deal with medicine process and so it could kill him to much medicine or if he didn't have actually parasites. And small dogs you know you got to be very carefull. I'll say take him to the hospital if can afford it because it's going to be expensive to save him. Or take him to a holistic vet. They use a mix of alternative natural and traditional medicine. I really hope that little George can make it.
Oh no...well, Now that you know, don't take you dog to the vet anymore, because i don't know, but i usualy get things worse than if i don't really pay attention to it...you should ask the vet if there is anything you can do to save him,...i never expirienced this, but i bet it's sad...love and cuddle your dog, kiss him, love him, play with him, anf LUV him forever!!! you still have chances right?
good luck!!!....
Your dog probably does have kidney failure. Since theone vet did more tests, She's probably right. I hate to say it, and am truly and sincerely sorry, but your dog may not have much time left here on earth.
