In 2001, the population in a town was 11% more than it was in 2000. If the population was 27,910 in 2002, which was 10% more than 2001, find the population in 2000.

I have done this problem and keep getting the answer 22356. Please tell me what I am doing wrong and how to fix it. Big math exam tomorrow. Need to get a good quiz warm up grade.

    2000: (x)

    2001: (1.11x) [11% more than in 2000)

    2002:(1.221x) [10% more than in 2001)

    So,

    1.221x = 27,910

    x = 27,910/1.221

    x = ~22,858...population in 2000

    and in 2002 it is 111+11,1 ok? that makes 122.1

    so to find the population back in 2000 we must say

    simply if the 100 became 122.1

    then x? for the 27,910

    x=(100x27,910)/122.1=22,858

    and we can make it certain by calculating vice versa

    22,858+2,515(11%)=25,373+2,537(10%)=27910
