Who do you choose as a guarantor for your rent?

I have a problem. At the moment my mum's a guarantor for me. This means she has agreed to pay my rent for the whole year if I default. She wasn't happy about doing this as it is a totally amount of £3,000 pounds! The thing is I was wondering what is she died and I needed a guarantor? None of my friends have £3,000 pounds and certainly not to pay my rent yet I wouldn't have been able to rent my accommodation without it! What do other people NORMALLY DO? I don't have much family, let alone rich friends! Please help!

  • Most people have good enough credit so that they don't need a guarantor.

Perhaps your credit has improved enough so that requirement will be dropped in the future.

  • People usually ask their parents or older relatives. I asked my aunt and uncle for my first apartment.

People usually also don't ask "what if they die." either. That's kind of morbid. It should be the landlord that's more concerned about that anyway. If you default and your guarantor starts paying for you, your credit is still screwed sideways.
