How do you get a splinter out a a cats paw?

Today i noticed my cat not using her front paw. When I looked at it she had two large pieces of wood or something in it. It is bothering her and she doesn't want to put any weight on it...Is there any way i can get it out without going to the vet? and if i must go to the vet, how much will it cost?....can i go to Petco for this?

Update:

Does anyone know how much it costs to get this done and if Petco can do it?

  • I had that happen to my kitten and had to use the calming aid I bought for when i took her in my trip from Fl to MI. It almost instantly soothes her and mellows her out and you can work on her without a problem. It's called NatureVet Quiet Moments Calming Aid. It's cheaper than taking her to the vet even though if the splinter is too deep you might want to take her in in case of infection. Hope that works, hope the kitty feels better.

  • Wrap her in a bath towel just the wounded paw ot hold her between your legs sit on your leg ( like when you knee down and sit back on your legs) and hold her wrapped between

tightly and use an tweezers also have some Triple antibiotic cream to put on it to prevent or cure infection, look well at the size of the splinter if it is to big it can provoke blood loss and in this case it's better to take her to the vet. but if its not to big do it yourself. the Triple Antibiotic Plus Cream sold by Walmart has pain reliving medicine on it,it's for humans but can be used on animals safely.

  • Wrap her up in a blanket so that the only paw able to get out is the one with the splinter then use tweezers to try to get it out. If you can't get it out your going to have to call your vet.

  • Hold her between your legs belly up with her hind legs tucked in your legs, careful not to hurt her. She'll only have her two front paws accessible- you should be able to pull it out with tweezers at that point. Examine the wound- does she bleed when you take it out? Are her shots overdue? If either of those answers is yes you should take her to the vet just to be careful.

  • We had a situation like yours involving my dog and a shard of glass. We ended up wrapping him in a sheet, burrito style, with just his paw sticking out to get the job done. Good luck! Maybe a cat treat or good petting afterward will soothe any hard feelings? :)

  • if your able to get it with tweezers, wrap her in a towel with only that foot sticking out,get help from a friend, and pull them out, however,if you do that, keep an eye in it,that it doesnt get infected,if it does, she will need to be seen by a vet.

  • Take the wood out with tweezers.

  • petsmart has vets.. i would let a vet do it because she probably wont stay still for you. You really have to get this done..it's very painful which is why she wont put it down.

  • take her to the vet they can do it for u. If you do it yourself you may do something wrong
