  • 1. In order to clear the fraction, multiply the entire equation by 4 to eliminate most of the fractions so you get...

    4(5/2)x + 4(1/4)x = 4 (11/4) + 4x

    simplify to..

    10x + 1x= 11 + 4x

    2. Add the x's on the right

    11x = 11 +4x

    3.subtract the 4x on both sides

    7x = 11

    4. divide both sides by 7

    x= 11/7

    and that's the final answer!

    Tip: Remember with Algebra, what you do to one side of the equation you need to do to the other side.

  • Clear the fractions by multiplying the entire equation by 4.

    (5/2)x + (1/4)x = 11/4 + x

    Multiply by 4.

    10x + x = 11 + 4x

    Combine like terms.

    11x = 11 + 4x

    Subtract 4x.

    7x = 11

    Divide by 7.

    x = 11/7
