It first depends on WHO gives the exam...an Optometrist, or an Opthamologist (Medical Doctor).
The Opthamologist is a medical doctor who can do surgery, etc. which is great, but they charge MUCH more than going to a licensed optometrist. Optometrist can be around $150.00 approx.
PLEASE NOTE: you must get a promise from whoever does the exam, that there MUST be free follow up care. Fitting contact lenses can take a LONG time if you are hard to fit (like I was). You may have to go through six pairs of lenses before you find a comfortable fit, and good vision with them. DO NOT, I REPEAT: DO NOT settle for an uncomfortable fit or slightly blurred vision with the lenses...if they are not giving a comfortable fit and sharp vision, then complain and get a new fitting.
Exam is about $50 with insurance, and $110 without. But, with the trial lenses included with the exam and lessons, it comes to about $170 with insurance, and $220 without.

That is why free follow up care is so important.

Good luck!
