How does a Grade/Stage 3 Placenta Affect Labor?
I had an ultrasound done at 37 weeks, and was told that I had a grade 3 placenta. They offered no other explanation, so while I was waiting on a call back did some research of my own. It seems that a grade 3 placenta (especially at how far along I am), is pretty typical.
I've had no complications with this pregnancy, and this is my fourth (all with no complications). There is very little information on the web, but from what I've gathered, unless you already have previous issues, the grading on the placenta isn't too big of a deal this far along. (There is no calcification on it)
What I'm wondering is how this could affect the labor and delivery, if it affects it at all? All of my labors have been under 6 hours (from first contraction to actual birth), except for my first, which was just a couple hours longer. I'm not very worried about it, and I would like to go in to my appointment next week (they have me going in for a non-stress test) armed with some information, since I typically cannot count on doctor's to be truthful and upfront with me.

Ive never actually heard of an anterior placenta making the birth more painful. I do know that an anterior placenta means you dont feel as much movement early on in pregnancy. Ive got an anterior placenta this time too so I think id better go do some research! Ill add any helpful links i find
Grading just refers to the maturity of the placenta, and Grade III refers to a very mature placenta. It does indicate calcification. If they were concerned about the transport of nutrients they would have said so.
It won't affect it at all. Grading really doesn't mean much until you're due or past due. Yours is normal, so there is nothing to be concerned about.
