Sims 3 steam compadability?

I have Sims 3 on my computer via disk, and it is registered and everything. I know you can't link it through steam to get updates but what I want to do is buy expansions through steam. Steam however, since I did not buy the game through Steam itself, will not let me buy the expansions because it says I do not have the original Sims 3 game on my computer. Is there any way I can get it to recognize the software so I can download the expansions? Thanks for your time.

    Steam games and non steam games are incompatible. I would not bother buying from steam. Try Amazon or even origin.

    As it says, you have to have the steam version of the base game in order to use the steam expansion packs. You can't mix and match. Either have it all from steam, or none.
