Is a calm Australian Shepherd normal?

My Aussie puppy is 11 weeks old, I adopted her 4 weeks ago. She is perfectly healthy and she's extremely smart. She's not fully housetrained yet but she's making awesome progress. She's a bit sneaky sometimes but she's also very obedient. I hear about how active and hyper this breed is and so I was wondering if there are some calm ones out there. She does get hyper and loves to play but she mostly enjoys laying on my slippers next to me while chewing on her favorite ball. I love her temperament by the way, this is not a complaint. I am just wondering if there are other Aussies like her.

  • They are an active breed yes, but they are not hyper, they are very calm, peaceful dogs. When they play, they play hard, and long. But not nutty like some breeds. HIGHLY intelligent and easy to train. Fabulous dogs.

  • It all depends on how you bring up the dog, if you walk them, of you bother to train and socialise them. Australian Shepherds are very energetic, they do need quite some exercise and she needs it even this young. She'll need about 20-30 minutes twice daily as soon as you can walk her. It should increase slowly as she needs. Good luck with her she sounds calm, use this as an advantage you need to socialise her, walk her and train her as you would any Australian Shepherd you just have a calm pup and these dogs are always the best.

  • She's a puppy, and this isn't likely representative of what she'll be like as an adolescent or adult.
