Audi A4 electrical issue!!?

I just purchased an Audi A4 1998 2.8L V6 with 107k. the car runs great but the only issue with is that there's certain part of the car that doesn't work for example: the headlights only work s when i'm flashing somebody, the signals doesn't work, the whipers doesn't work, A/C and heater doesn't work, the cruise control and the rear view mirrors. what could be the problem with it? how much could I be looking forward to pay not from a dealer but from a mechanic shop at a gas station?

  • Ok, first off, did this car have to go through a safety inspection to get registered? If so, how did it pass?

Headlights- switch is done- replace switch (the one next to the turn signal)

Signals- relay needs replacing- its behind the flasher switch in the HVAC/Radio binnacle

Wipers- Possibly the switch or the motor

HVAC- couldn't tell you, but I would bet the fan has bit the dust

Cruise- relay or one or one or more vacuum lines have been cracked or disconnected.

    Mirrors- relay or the switch.

Total amount to diagnose and repair- $1500 +/-.

*Note, why didn't you have the car checked out prior to purchase? This could have been a good negotiating tool. Also, DO NOT have a mechanic at a gas station work on it. Audis are not the easiest cars to work on. Find a independent mechanic who works on imports, especially German.

  • the a4 and the Passat stopped sharing a chassis in 2000. The A4 endured utilising Audis b platform and the passat moved to the pq46 platform. in basic terms the small Audis nonetheless share systems with VW. confident VW does very own a controlling share of Audi maximum of Audis vehicles are Audi designed and Audi engineered they take care of greater effective have greater effective driving dynamics, greater luxury and are certainly greater sturdy than VW's (different than for the A8) yet i characteristic this to larger maintenance that maximum Audi's acquire the place VW proprietors oftentimes overlook the vehicles greater (because of greater Audi proprietors being fanatic have been many VW proprietors are in simple terms finding for worry-free transportation) so the A4 is by capacity of a few distance the greater effective motor vehicle there's no question, yet are you finding to spend the extra money that the Audi will require in maintenance (synthetic oil variations that run $a hundred each and every etc)undergo in suggestions the Audi will maximum probable be greater sturdy than a VW yet probable in simple terms as high priced to possess in simple terms much less time interior the keep. the A4 and A6 are the two some distance greater perfect to a VW jetta and a passat is high quality in case you desire greater effective room and cant have the money for to get an A6. I even have had 3 Audis and 2 VW and the Audis have been all some distance greater perfect to the VW. and thats not saying VW are undesirable we've a jetta TDI it particularly is a great motor vehicle in spite of the undeniable fact that it particularly isn't any Audi. (VW does not very own Porsche its any different way around "sorta" Porsche owns almost 31% of VW not any different way around and is interior the path of a a danger takeover of the corporate which is composed of VW Audi Bentley Bugatti Skoda Lamborghini and seat )

  • Well it sounds like there's some potential damage. The first thing you have to do is make sure that there isn't a blown fuse, the fuses (on my audi) are located to the left of the steering wheel, but mines a TT so consult your manual where to find yours. A blown fuse will be brown and will correlate to the area of the car that isn't working, there is a table to help you find the areas. If there isn't a blown fuse, take it into a shop and get a quote.
