Sorry, but you can't just start contemporary without some kind of background experience in ballet. I highly suggest you take ballet for at least 2 years, although I recommend 3 years, before taking contemporary.
I'm a contemporary dancer (recreational), and for my class, it's an unofficial rule that you have to have prior background ballet experience--not a single dancer in that class hasn't taken ballet for at least three years. Our instructor expects us to already know everything that he tells us to do. If he tells us to do tilted battements, we do it. If he tells us to do triple pirouettes, we do it. No questions asked.
Granted, this might just be the way that it works at my dance studio, and contemporary isn't nearly as strict as ballet, but I still highly recommend you take ballet prior to contemporary. Contemporary is not a class for beginners.
If you want to dance, go for it! You will become more flexible over time, but dance is serious, so you need to make the commitment that you will stretch everyday, even when you do not have dance class. Contemporary dance uses ballet techniques and conveys a story, that's why usually all contemporary dancers have taken ballet beforehand. I recommend taking ballet for a while and after you get the basics perfectly executed, try contemporary. I don't know where you live, so I can't really recommend any studios near you. Good luck!

Well, if I were you I would stretch and get a bit more flexible and you could at least touch your toes to make it easier to dance. I would do it at your school and have lessons there. Also, you can do Pilates to make you more flexible. Have fun and I hope I helped. xx
You don't have to be too flexable however the longer you do it, the more flexiable you'll become.
