I was woundering does anyone know what it should consist of because i have loads of sketchbooks but what should i do, rip them out? scan them and put them all together into a file? btw the course im doing is Architecture. Any tips? or from design students?
Update:fanx, what order should you put them in? Like best pieces in the beginning or middle or last etc?

Don't rip your sketch books up !
Take them with you, every last one. What I did was put elastic band on best pages to encourage these pages to open if someone randomly opened the books.
Get yourself a portfolio, the ones that photographers and fine art students use. Put examples of your best work in the portfolio. Start with a cracker and end with the very best you have to offer.
Less is more. Don't show mediocre work unless you really have to. Show a small amount of your very best.

If youre doing a course the best thing to do is consult with your teacher and ask them to help you put together a portfolio. Just tell them what your needs are and they should be more than glad to help youput together the best possible presentation or maybe direct you to another faculty member that would help...
Depending on how you feel about the sketch books cutting them out and mounting them would be one way to go...or getting good scans would work as well...
ask your teachers...thats what theyre there for...lol.
hey Michelle. I had my interviews final twelve months for picture layout and am now examining picture layout & representation with merchandising and marketing at hertfordshire college. For my portfolio interviews, i actually threw in each and every thing i had from college, and small areas of gcse point. This coated distinctive specific sketchbooks/journals, typographical examples-as a rule handcrafted and self rendered(& some laptop based stuff), graphical experiments, artwork products, photographs products, format designs, posters showcasing use of photoshop, drawings, artwork and different blended media experiments. it somewhat is to no longer say that in case you haven't any longer have been given any of those issues you will no longer do properly. it somewhat is only what i had in my very own one. My suggestion is to place each and every thing you have interior the portfolio. only make certain you lay it out tastefully, well, and with a expert style. inspite of each and every thing, professionalism in picture layout may be key with the main appropriate human beings. Ask your tutors, instructors, associates and kin to look via your portfolio before the interview to grant you some comments approximately the way it seems, format/set out.etc. additionally, make certain you already know what youre speaking approximately whilst it is composed of showcasing your artwork. desire that helps. question me the different questions in case you choose, i'm greater effective than satisfied to help.
You should include 12-15 pieces of your work. Print them digitally (kinkos) on nice white paper. and mount on black illustration board (include a 2-4" border).
You want to include your strongest design pieces. If you want to include sketches (which i advise against - it should be completed designs), I would scan them in and print out.
