I suspect that Starbucks, being the high-end outfit that it is, would not cancel a gift card after just a year. After all, every time you go in is another chance to addict you.

I usually use mine up within a few weeks, so I'm not sure.

Starbucks gift cards never expire. You can still use it whether you just got it or got it 2 years ago.
The value will still be the same....Starbucks does not charge fees to unused cards.
