I'm glad you want to know how to do it rather than just asking for the answer.
Conversion for metric values is pretty easy. A kilogram is 1000 grams (kilo means 1000) if you want to get from kilograms to grams, you need to multiply by 1000 (more grams than kilograms). For miligrams, there are 1000 miligrams in a gram. In short kilo is 10^+3, mili is 10^-3.
So, you multiply by 1000 to get to grams, and multiply by 1000 more to get to milligrams. So you have 87.35 * 10^6 milligrams.
I hope that made sense. Good luck. It is very helpful to learn the various metric prefixes. Then all you have to do is move the decimal point (since it's all powers of ten).

1 kilogram = 1000 grams.
1 gram = 1000 milligrams.
Multiply 87.35 *1000 to convert to grams, you get 87350.
Next convert to milligrams by once again multiplying by 1000. So 87350 *1000, you get 87350000.
Or in scientific notation 8.735 x 10^7.
