I'm always depressed?

I'm 13 and always really depressed. I cry a lot, and sometimes I just want to cut myself? It's really stupid things that get me so upset and depressed as well, sometimes I'm not even sure why I'm so depressed or upset. People say its just my age and hormones but is it more than that? Because no one else I know suffers from depression like I do, except one of my friends, but her uncle suffers from bad depression to so I think it's genetic maybe? But, the question is, it it just my hormones or do maybe suffer from depression? And will it get better? -sorry is so long!:(

  • Go to the doctor first. If you want to cut yourself it is not a sign of teenage hormones, it is a sign that you want help and that you want to stop feeling so unhappy. They might refer you to a child's mental health doctor so you can talk about your feelings and symptoms with them.

And with the genetics; my mother had depression, and I have/ have had depression, and genetics do play a part in depression and other psychological illnesses, so that could be true in your case.

Honestly my doctors did nothing for my depression, put me on a waiting list for 5 months for a psychologist. So I got sick and tired of waiting and feeling severely depressed, that I went to my chemist and got an over-the-counter drug recommended by other people that have beaten depression that has helped me so much. Can't remember the name but it had no side-effects and was not as dangerous as anti-depressants could be. I'd really talk with your GP about your options though, some medication works for some depression, others don't make a difference.

Good luck, it takes a lot of courage to get over depression, it's a real illness and many people forget this. You will come out a stronger person if you beat it :)

  • Hun I can completely relate to what you're going through!

From reading what you said, I think that you may be being too harsh on yourself which of course will make you feel down.

You probably feel as though you've just gone 'mad' and this is how you'll be stuck for the rest of your life - but you won't. You're at an age that is really tricky because there is so much you're adjusting to, like your hormones are probably going wacky because you're hitting puberty and you're working out who you are as a person. It is so much more common than you think for teenagers to feel the way you do, I felt the exact same and a few of my friends did too but we just didn't really tell each other or anyone.

If you're finding it really overwhelming to deal with, I find the best thing to do is talk about it - to get it off your chest, like by chatting to your friend or you could always ask whether your GP or school could set you up with a counselor (again, going to a counselor is more common than you think and by going to one does not mean you're crazy! it is also confidential so no-one has to know).

Whenever you feel like you're having a depressive dip just try and avoid thinking to yourself that you are 'strange' or 'odd' or that no-one else knows what its like/that you're alone because you aren't at all!

  • i was in the same position as you at 14. i am 21 now and i am just starting to get better. I had an eating disorder that would take over me, id cut myself and i tried to kill myself 3 times (overdose). I was hopitalized at 15 because i had lost to much weight and almost died from anorexia. Today i am better. Anorexia will always be part of me but i just need to controll it. My last hospital admission was in December 2011 and was released in Febuary. I had shaved my head and cut my leggs so badly that i still have scars.

Depression can be genetic. Depression and other mental ilnesses run on both sides of my family, especialy on my dad's side. You can feel depress without knowing the reasons but usaly there is always a trigger. For me, it was due to being bullied all throughout my school years, the fact that my groupe of friends turned on me in grade 10, my relationship with my dad, my disinfaction of the way i look. I usaly over thing things to much and jump to conclusion.

Right now i am taking some medication for my anxiety, mood and depression. I am on Syrequel and Cipralex.

You should talk to your parents or go into counciling. Or if you dont want to talk to anyone you can talk to me :) heres me email: [email protected]

Things do get better but you need to act on it now and not wait. The more you wait the more it will worsen.

  • i'm a Capricorn woman, with 5 planets in Capricorn. I have struggled between fantastic highs and fantastic lows about my visual attraction. It become once worse at the same time as i become once youthful (round your age) -- I had an analogous insecurities - as well it become once too skinny/strange nostril/small boobs/no be sure. I have established Capricorn in actual features -- tall, skinny, lengthy face, lengthy nostril, sharp efficient factors, small boobs, small waist, tremendous hips, skinny legs -- I felt so out-of-percentage for this variety of lengthy time period, although many persons tell me i'm awesome. I have some lack of self assurance about my visual attraction -- often times fearing that i do no longer look "female" sufficient -- yet then I recognize a dazzling variety of it really is in simple terms hogwash. With a lot media blitz telling how "what's alluring", it can be demanding no longer to get stuck up frequently. component to that is that you're 19 and also you're nevertheless figuring your self out -- it will get larger, once you recognize better of who you're, and who you do not look. you're though a teenager. if you're unhappy with your self, replace it -- although make confident you regulate the dazzling components, on account that devoid of situation putting band-aids over the region shouldn't help you.

  • What should I say to you?

You should make the decision what you should do? Doctor?

I am a very lonely person and depressed with medication, do you have friends and excercise?

When your upset, do you eat, what's your symptoms?

How are you sleeping? Do you drink enough?

My doctor says for me it's both, my age and my past.

Please trust me and do what you think is right, don't listen to everybody, as they aren't always right. And good luck and look after yourself.

Keep yourself busy and dont be Lonley

  • visit a doctor. depression may also be caused by phsyical illnesses like infections, thyroid problems, hormonal problems, or brain tumors. if they cannot find a physical cause to your depression then you may need to take antidepressants which are not bad at all now a days but there is treatment and you will get better if you see a doctor.

  • I'm 12 and I feel like that. A few hours ago, I was so angry at myself and was crying because I wanted to cut myself (like I've done a few times). What calms me down, is listening to rock music. It's weird, but it works. I listen to Skillet mostly.

  • Getting medication doesnt solve the problem, finding out whats making you depressed and changing it is the answer, taking medication for everything doesnt work and is hard on your body.

  • I think its not normal as u said u cry a lot do stupid things and think about hurting your self. my advise is to talk with ur parents because they are the only persons who can really help u.so go ahead and discuss ur mental condition with them.

  • just be more positive, i find if i listen to certain genres of music it makes me feel more happy and its kinda nerdy but if you get into books it takes your mind off the world and it could make you happier too:3
