How do i reset dell 2120 bios password?
Hey I had a dell 2120 notebook from my old school and for some reason the bios is locked and I am trying to upgrade the os.
Can some one please tell me how to reset the password. Thanks

There are both hardware and software solutions to this problem.
The software solution is probably easiest, but it requires having access to another computer. You'll need a utility that generates a master password based on your netbook's System Number. You can find such a file at the link, below. To get your System Number, boot the netbook and press F2 until the BIOS settings screen appears then select the Unlock button. You will see the System Number in the format: "XXXXXXXXX-XXXX".
Next, run the Dell.exe file from the link, below and enter the System Number. It will generate the master password. Use that password to access the system.
The hardware option is lengthier and requires disassembling the netbook and removing the CMOS battery. Removing the battery for a minute then reinserting, reassembling and rebooting will also remove the CMOS password. Instructions on how to do that are included, below.
