Is cold pastrami cooked or raw?

Hi everyone, just bought some Turkish pastrami and not really sure is it cooked or not as it doesn't say on the packet. I know it's been cured, smoked and dried but is it safe to eat or do I have to cook first for a sandwich?? If so what's the best way to cook it?? Thanks a lot

Update:

Thanks Miggy, that was quite helpful :-)

  • Pastrami is cooked spiced boiled beef, you eat it as it comes. Very nice on rye bread with mustard and pickles!

  • It's not cooked, but you don't cook it.

For pastrami, the raw meat is brined, partly dried, seasoned with various herbs and spices, then smoked and steamed.

If the deli you bought it trustworthy, it's trustworthy.
