new a/c compressor warmer a/c?

the clutch on my old a/c compressor froze up on my 1985 chevy s10 blazer. i took it in to get the system vacuumed out so i can put the new compressor and clutch in and convert it over to a 134-a system. but the air isn't close  to how cold it was before. is the r-12 freon colder or is it more likely that i got air in my system and its keeping it from being cold?

  • R12 does blow colder than r134a. if your a/c is working properly, the temperature of air coming from the vents should be about 30 to 40 degrees colder than outside air. test with a thermometer in the center vent, a/c on max, allow 15 min of run time with all widows up before taking a reading. if it is 30 degrees cooler than outside, everything is working properly. by the way if you do this test on a humid day, your a/c will be less efficient, so pick a dry day

  • R-134 will not cool as good in a R-12 system because there is a difference in the condensers. A R-134 condenser has smaller and more tubes in it so that it will dissipate heat better than a R-12 condenser.

  • I hope you got all the air vacuumed out once you put the new compressor on. R134 doesn't cool as well as R12. If the system is too small, it won't properly cool the car.

  • what about using a larger 134 condensor in a car with r12 all cleaned and r12 dryer with r12 orings and r12 pag oil down here in Hellabama.
