How do I email my boss concerning my work?
hi,
I'm trying to write an email to my boss. I want to request a meeting with him once every week to review my work on this project that I've been working on for the past 10 months. It's been taking so long to finalize it because he's always busy. So there's a lack of supervision and I try to send him emails regarding some tasks he assign to me to complete the project. But it seems that he's not aware of what I'm doing in this project. He has no idea what I've finished and what I've reached..when I ask him about certain things in these tasks, he seems to answer in a different direction. Now I'm afraid if I kept working on my own without any supervision, my work might turn out to be totally wrong and a total waste of resources and time.
so please I need your email to write him an email to state my problem to him and suggest a solution.
Thanks in advance
Update:sorry..I meant I need your "help".

Dear <boss' name here>,
I would like to meet with you once per week, at your convenience, to discuss my progress on this project. I would just like to get your input and to make sure I am progressing to your satisfaction.
Please let me know when you would be available to meet with me.
Thanks,
<your name here>
Sample Email To Boss
Your boss needs to communicate to his bosses about his employees whether it be good or bad. Instead of asking or dwelling on the email, have a conversation with your boss. Ask him if there is anything that you do that needs improving, or needs some work. If you're willing to work on the areas he feels that you need to work, it shows that you care about your job, not some email. If I were your boss I would say no too because if he put other people in the email, that is none of your business or concern. I am wondering how you found about the email
Well, you seem to have all the concepts in place:
You'd like to update him on what you've been doing on the project.
You want to make sure you're on the right track.
You'd really like to have regular status meetings with him.
From some things he's said in answer to your questions, you're afraid you might be off-track.
You want to make sure you're on the right track.
Sorry, I'm not really helping you with your email, am I? It sounds as though you need to make this seem urgent, as he's "too busy" (which, geez, supervising you is part of his JOB).
I don't know whether your emails open with greetings or not, but the main body could be something like:
"I really need to meet with you soon to discuss the [project]. I'd like to update you on what I've been doing, and how I've been approaching it, and get your feedback and direction."
Something like that.
OR, you could give him the status update IN the email, and ask for clarification, or a meeting.
BTW, if you don't get adequate response, you may need to contact HIS supervisor.
You're right in fearing wasting time and resources. Although he's your boss, it's also true that you're his customer. It's his job to give you everything you need to do YOUR job. You need to prod him to realize this (not in those terms, but get his attention).
It may be that you've been doing everything right, but he just doesn't realize where you are, or the details of how the project's worked out. But you DO need reassurance, if that's the case.
As far as the project itself, do you understand its PURPOSE? That should always be your guide.
When you've finished it, where do the results go? Who needs it? What do they need to be able to do with the results?
These are the kinds of questions you should always be asking yourself as a reality check.
But needing a reality-check with him is a perfectly legitimate thing.
Bad news: boss doesn't care enough or have enough time to listen to you.
Good news: you can keep doing what you're doing. His tacet response has indicated that there are no problems. Also, your paper trail of emailed requests for review have covered you a@@ in a very good way. If you are ever called to the VP's office for failing at this task, you can rest assured that boss will take the brunt of the heat for not managing you.
most bosses tend to not say yes this is correct!
i would just do a weekly e-mail to him stating what you have done.
if anything was done wrong i'm sure he would contact you!
he is giving you this chance to prove yourself ((sounds like to me at least)) to show your leader ship skills!
If he was worried about it he would be over your shoulder most of the time but it seems that he has confidence in you to do the right job the right way! you should give yourself credit and beleive more in yourself!
send him an e-mail asking for some time!
Better yet knock on his door and say excuse me I did this that and this! would love your feed back! when he changes the subject ask how does that relate to what you asked! there is no wrong in being assertive!
Disco Girl,
you should have laid down the law a long time ago. I have a boss who is constantly busy and has little time to meet with me, sometimes I catch him on the way to the bathroom to ask him if he is available for a meeting (of course I let him know what is on his calendar for that date). But still when he has me working on a big project or important project I barge right into his office and ask away of course I allways come prepared with a list of questions and all my notes, after we are done he thanks me and says that was great (that i interupped him). He's also HOT!
Just email him and let him know that you would like him to set time aside so that you can go over what you have done. But how do you know he has time to read his emails if he's so busy? Or in your email you can let him know what has been accomplished and what your next move is.
