Culinary Institute of America - Hyde Park: Bachelor's vs. Associates' Degree?
The only distinguishable difference I can find is that you can choose some electives (macro/microeconomics, business management classes) and a trip to a major culinary destination; northern, southern California, Italy, France, China etc.
My questions:
-What is the difference in tuition between a bachelors degree and an associates degree from the CIA - Hyde Park, New York?
-What are the major differences between the two degrees? Is it worth taking on the extra debt to earn a bachelors degree from the CIA or does an associates degree do just fine?
-Do you learn anything that would/could be life altering/good to know/etc. through the bachelors degree vs. the associates?
If you are a prospective/current student or an alum your answers would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Nik-
Glad to hear that you are considering attending The Culinary Institute of America!
Our Associates degree is 21 months and primarily focuses on the hands on culinary arts or baking and pastry arts fundamentals. Our Bachelors degree is the 21 months of the Associates degree and then an additional 17 months of academic classes that are geared toward the management aspect of the industry. If you are looking ot open your own restaurant, be an executive chef, general manager or work in some time of management or supervisory position within the industry then the Bachelors degree is the best option for you. As you mentioned above there is a food and wine seminar where students travel domestically or abroad to learn about various aspects of the industry from wine making to cheese production to visiting some of the top fine dining restaurants. http://www2.ciachef.edu/BPS/seminars/index.html
Tuition per year can be found here http://www.ciachef.edu/admissions/finaid/tuition_n...
Please keep in mind that 90% of students receive some form of financial aid and you will not know what your cost of attendance is until you apply and then if you are admitted to the CIA, you will need to file the FAFSA to determine what type of financial aid you qualify for.
I also encourage you to visit campus to learn more about the CIA and the degree programs that we offer. I am more than happy to help you set up a visit and to answer any additional questions that you have about the CIA. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 860-378-0306.
