Yes, it's not unusual for fish to hide behind plants and other things. If the medications you're using have worked, he should be perfectly healthy soon. As long as you're taking care of him well, he should be fine. It's also possible that he could just be stressed out from being moved to a new place, so just give him a little time.
Also, I would recommend buying fish from a real pet store, not Walmart.
i have had cichlids my whole life oscars african jack dempsey etc... and my oscars lived for around 5 years and they were kinda lazy and would just sit at the the bottom but never really hide so im saying if the medicine worked right they will be out and healthy atleast to where you can see him...but remeber to do water changes alot with oscars there dirty fish!
