2002 Mazda Protege ES Adding Horsepower?
What can I add to my 2002 Mazda Protege ES to gain a little more horsepower, without ruining my transmission? Unfortunately it is a Auto trans (the girlfriend is scared to drive stick lol) Any ideas? Would a Turbo be to much? It really has awesome pep for being such an economical car. I just want to add a little more Hp to make my driving experience a little more enjoyable.

The Protege engine is unfortunately weak for forces induction like turbo, NOS, or supercharger.
It can handle a maximum of 5PSI of turbo boost assuming you buy supporting modifications like exhaust system and performance intake and get an ECU tune at a tuner shop.
You could spend a thousand or two to get a percentage more horsepower...why?
I changed my air filter, plugs and ignition wires, and cleaned the throttle body.
I swear I could feel the difference. Especially with the A/C on going uphill...
You have a MAF sensor. if it's dirty, the engine can't get all the gas it needs.
Use MAF cleaner... see:
