No it doesn't. The domain name actually points to a folder within a server. Within the folder there is usually a file named index.html which is the first page displayed. If the file or folder is not there you just get a 404 not found error. I am constantly updating a webpage I have. Sometimes multiple times a day. I first delete the old one and then transfer the updated version.
